Wil van Gemert
Painter

Biography
Life Events
Wil van Gemert (1953) is a Dutch painter from the province North Brabant.
My preference is to paint still lifes with oil paint.
Sometimes I experiment with other materials such as colored pencil, acrylic, pastel or air brush, but I always come back to my passion, oil painting.
There is no deep philosophy in my work, “what you see is what you get”.
The process that precedes it is much more important.
It is often a search for the right objects, atmosphere and composition in which the objects come out best.
Sometimes I spend days shifting and searching for the right composition. Once the match is found and the result of my work is navanant, my mission is successful. I usually have a work in progress for 2 to 3 months.
It is often said “looks like a photo”. My challenge is to approach reality as much as possible, but through painting I can add or remove things to get more harmony.
I can also strengthen or weaken the foreground, background or shadow, or let my imagination come out with colors, which makes it a painting.
People often ask me what I think is my best work, my answer has been the same for years, “I still have to paint it”.
That is the challenge that stimulates me to constantly go on the search and the adventure. For me it is not so much about the result but about the way there.
A response is very welcome www.wilvangemert.com
