Life Events

Juan Elani Tulas is a self-taught artist from Philippines. With no art training, Juan Elani developed a medium using recycled styropore. He collects discarded polystyrene, popularly known as Styrofoam, dilute and use it as his medium in his artworks.

Nature, motion, camouflage, underwater scenes, aerial landscapes, floral, microscopic images and personal experiences are the main factors that are integrated into his art. These factors mixed with recycled styropore are intertwined and interweaved within and upon each other to form a unique kind of artwork.

Juan Elani is active in the Philippine art scene. He has also exhibited his styroworks in US, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Hong Kong. And, he co-owned Chillside Food and Art Hauz, an alternative art space in his community where he and other local artists exhibit their works.

Juan Elani  is married to Nemalyn and graced with two children, One Bigwell and Brave Hunter.
